Vecinos Unidos – Neighbors United.
The THISL Family Support Team (“Vecinos Unidos”/United Neighbors) meet with families of those who have been detained or deported, or with those fearing that outcome who have material or financial needs. Building real bonds with the impacted community and letting those in need explain what would help, as opposed to deciding what they should need, is a hallmark of THISL’s approach. Sometimes needs will be financial, or food-related, sometimes it will be making a lot of phone calls to line up resources or get answers or paperwork/documentation and other times the need might simply be for someone to listen.
Necessary for this work: a willingness to listen and center those who are impacted, occasionally reliable transportation or lifting/hauling (for food bank work).
