Teach People about Their Constitutional Rights.
THISL volunteers will distribute signage and educational materials to organizations, groups and individuals (including business owners and their employees, and outdoor laborers) so that all are aware of their constitutional rights as they relate to immigration enforcement, and things such as I-9 audits, warrant requirements or private areas for employees. Sometimes, Washington Neighborhood Defense (WAND) will conduct online sessions with immigration attorneys so that business owners can ask questions they might have and THISL will alert the business community to these opportunities.
THISL volunteers often do this canvassing in pairs, and in selected areas of the county. (Bonus: you get to discover all sorts of businesses you may not have known existed!)
Necessary for this work: respect for businesses and a fierce love for due process, communication skills including listening to the concerns of organization, community, group members and business owners or their employees.
